Agartala, September 25: The celebration of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Jayanti in Tripura took a historic turn on Thursday as Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala became the venue of a massive political joining program. A total of nine hundred and twenty voters, representing two hundred and thirty families, formally embraced the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Paritosh Debbarma, a prominent political figure of the tribal society. Debbarma, who was earlier a zonal chairman of Tipra Motha, a foundation member of the party and recently in charge of the Youth Tipra Federation in Dhalai district, declared his allegiance to the BJP along with his followers.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha personally welcomed the new members into the BJP family. In his address, the Chief Minister described the joining as a historic step that reflects the growing confidence of the indigenous people in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development. He pointed out that the BJP government is sincerely committed to the upliftment of the tribal population of Tripura. Citing a range of initiatives, Dr. Saha highlighted progress in education, healthcare, tribal hostels, Eklavya model residential schools, solar power schemes, fisheries, rubber cultivation, sports infrastructure and other developmental works that are being extended across the TTAADC areas.

The Chief Minister also underlined the government’s focus on channeling youth energy in the right direction. Reiterating the campaign slogan “Football is Game, Drugs are Shame,” he stressed that the BJP government is determined to fight the menace of drug addiction while promoting sports and cultural activities among tribal youths.
The joining ceremony was attended by a host of senior leaders including Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and state general secretary Bipin Debbarma, along with other prominent leaders of the party’s tribal morcha. They welcomed the new entrants warmly and expressed confidence that this development would further strengthen BJP’s base in the tribal regions of the state.
Paritosh Debbarma, in his statement, explained that his decision was driven by faith in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. He said that BJP is the only party capable of ensuring the welfare and development of the indigenous people of Tripura and that he and his supporters were eager to contribute to the larger mission of nation building.
Observers believe that this large-scale joining will be a significant boost for the BJP, especially in the tribal belts of Dhalai district, while simultaneously delivering a blow to Tipra Motha. The program concluded amidst chants of BJP slogans, as the new members were formally inducted into the party with traditional scarves, marking a new chapter in Tripura’s political landscape.
