Tripura, 20 Sep 2025: Two persons convicted in a narcotics smuggling case were sent to jail yesterday following the verdict of the Sonamura Special and NDPS Court.
On May 16, 2022, police from Sonamura Police Station, acting on a secret tip-off, arrested Shahjahan Moishan and Delwar Hossain from NC Nagar village with a motorbike and a consignment of cannabis. The case was registered under the NDPS Act by Investigating Officer Anamika Dutta.
After examining 11 witnesses, Hon’ble Judge Shankari Das of the Sonamura Special and NDPS Court found both accused guilty. The court sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. In default of payment, they will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
The convicts, Shahjahan Moishan and Delwar Hossain, were sent to jail yesterday after the announcement of the verdict. Public Prosecutor Narayan Debnath represented the government in the case.
