Tripura, Sept 16: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today inaugurated the MLA Cup Football Tournament at Boxanagar Mini Stadium, emphasizing the role of sports in building both a healthy body and a sound mind. He said that along with personal growth, youth should actively participate in sports for the greater interest of society and the nation.
The Chief Minister highlighted that both the Central and State governments have been giving special attention to the promotion of sports. The present state government has taken several initiatives to strengthen sports infrastructure, including the construction of eight synthetic football grounds and synthetic hockey grounds across various locations in the state. Advanced swimming pools have also been set up for the state’s swimmers.

Underscoring the importance of a drug-free society, Dr. Saha said, “The more the youth engage in sports, the stronger the fight against addiction will be.” He reiterated that the state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and urged all sections of society to extend support to this initiative.

The event was also addressed by MLA Tafazzal Hossain. Among the distinguished guests present were Boxanagar Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Swapna Nama, Sepahijala District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police Bijay Debbarma, and Boxanagar BDO Sanjib Kumar Pal.
The tournament, which commenced today, features the participation of 16 teams from both within and outside the state.
