Tripura, 12 September 2025: The Neermahal Water Festival is not only a celebration of royal architecture but also a reflection of the everyday life of the people living around Rudrasagar. The palace and the lake embody the history and heritage of Tripura, while also contributing to the social and economic upliftment of the local community.
Inaugurating the three-day traditional Neermahal Water Festival at Rajghat, Melaghar today, Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman said that Neermahal and Rudrasagar play a vital role in improving the livelihood of the people of this region. He emphasized that the festival is not only about boosting tourism but also about strengthening the cultural heritage of the people, particularly the Scheduled Caste communities living in the Rudrasagar area.
The festival has been jointly organized by the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation, Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Sepahijala Zilla Parishad, Melaghar Municipal Council, and Sepahijala District Administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Barman highlighted the deep connection between Neermahal and the lives of the local people. He wished the festival great success.
Other dignitaries who addressed the gathering included Sepahijala Zilla Parishad’s Assistant Sabhadhipati Pintu Aich and noted social worker Uttam Das. The welcome address was delivered by Tripura Tourism Development Corporation’s Managing Director Prashanta Badal Negi. The event was presided over by Melaghar Municipal Council Chairperson Anamika Ghosh Pal Ray.
Among the guests were MDC Padmalochan Tripura, Vice Chairperson of Melaghar Municipal Council Gurupada Roy, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sonamura Raju Dev, Secretary of Rudrasagar Udbastu Fishermen’s Cooperative Society Parameshwar Das, and Deputy Director of ICA Department Panchali Debbarma.
