Tripura, 12 Sep 2025: Churaibari police seized a huge consignment of narcotic yaba tablets worth around ₹25 lakh during a special operation near the Tripura-Assam border on Friday evening.
Based on a tip-off, police from Churaibari Police Station set up an ambush near the railway gate. During the operation, they detained a suspect identified as Nazimuddin (37), a resident of Tarekpur under Kadamtala Police Station.
Upon searching a handbag he was carrying, police discovered 50 pouches of Yaba tablets, each containing 200 pieces, making a total of 10,000 tablets weighing approximately 1 kilogram. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is between ₹20 and ₹25 lakh.
Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari Police Station Debabrata Biswas confirmed that the contraband was seized in the presence of a forensic team (FSL) and an executive magistrate. Police suspect the drugs were being smuggled from Assam into Tripura.
A case under the NDPS Act is being registered against Nazimuddin. Investigators are probing further to identify other individuals connected with the smuggling network.
