Tripura, 12 Sep 2025: Agartala Government Dental College & IGM Hospital continues to provide treatment services for various dental and oral health problems. Every day, patients benefit from specialized care at the hospital for different dental and oral issues.
One of the important departments of the hospital is the Pedodontics Department, which focuses on the oral health of children and adolescents from early childhood to teenage years. The department provides diagnosis and treatment of teeth, gums, and jaw problems in children, ensuring proper dental development and maintaining oral hygiene.
Recently, parents from Jogendranagar brought their 11-year-old son to the hospital with complaints related to his tongue and speech. The child was unable to speak clearly due to a condition. After examination, specialists in the Pedodontics Department diagnosed him with Ankyloglossia (commonly known as tongue-tie).
The doctors informed the parents that the condition required a minor surgical procedure, which could be done using modern laser surgery technology. With the parents’ consent, the specialists successfully performed the laser surgery, resolving the child’s problem.
This advanced surgical method involves minimal bleeding, requires less time, causes reduced pain and swelling, and allows for faster healing without stitches. Compared to conventional methods, it is safer, more effective, and more comfortable for patients.
Following the successful surgery, the child was discharged on the same day, and within a few days, his speech improved significantly. He is now able to speak clearly.
The laser surgery was conducted by Assistant Professor Dr. Nirmal Debbarma and Assistant Professor Dr. Smita Pal of the Pedodontics Department, with the support of OT nurses.
The entire procedure was provided free of cost by the hospital. Grateful for the successful treatment, the child’s parents expressed heartfelt thanks to the doctors and all healthcare staff involved.
