Gurugram, Sep 02 : The Gurugram Traffic Police have suspended three officers following a viral video that appears to show them taking a bribe from a Japanese tourist. The incident, recorded by the tourist using smart glasses, sparked outrage on social media and led to swift action from the authorities.
The video shows the tourist, identified as Kaito, being stopped for not wearing a helmet while riding as a pillion passenger on a scooter. An officer is heard demanding a 1,000 rupee fine in cash, refusing the tourist’s attempt to pay with a card. The officer, speaking in broken English, tells Kaito to “Pay here or in court,” while rejecting “Visa touch” and insisting on cash. Kaito then gives the officer two 500 rupee notes, and no receipt is provided.

Kaito stated he was targeted because he is a foreigner and posted the video online to expose the incident. The Gurugram Traffic Police confirmed the situation on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) had taken immediate action. They reiterated their “zero-tolerance” policy on corruption and urged the public to report similar incidents.
The suspended officers were named as Zonal Officer ESI Karan Singh, Constable Shubham, and Home Guard Bhupender. The police department emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in public service.
