Agartala, September 2: Tension gripped the MLA Hostel in Agartala late Monday night after a group of miscreants allegedly entered the premises and threatened TIPRA Motha legislator Philip Reang.
According to MLA Reang, the incident occurred around 10 PM when he was speaking with his family outside his room. “Some outsiders, under the influence of alcohol, came inside and threatened me. I immediately informed the SP, who sent security personnel. Later, I requested the DGP to look into the matter,” he said, terming it a “serious security lapse.”
Reang further warned that such incidents pose a grave security risk not just to him but to all MLAs staying in the hostel. “Today it happened to me, tomorrow it could be someone else. The Hon’ble Chief Minister should take this matter very seriously,” he added.
Tripura DGP Anurag, who visited the MLA Hostel on Tuesday, confirmed that 2–3 individuals had entered the premises posing as guests. “An argument took place between them and Hon’ble MLA Philip Reang. We are reviewing the overall security arrangements and taking steps to strengthen them so that such incidents do not recur. Only authorized guests will be allowed inside,” he told reporters.
The DGP assured that investigations are underway to identify and take action against the individuals involved.
