Tripura, 1st Sep 2025: Khowai District Hospital doctors have successfully performed a complex surgery on the leg of a minor girl from a poor family in Kalyanpur R.S. Para, thanks to the timely use of the Ayushman Bharat health card.
On August 24, Seema Debbarma, the minor daughter of daily wage laborer Ron Kishore Debbarma, suffered a serious fracture in her right leg following an accident. She was rushed to Khowai District Hospital the next day, where doctors advised surgery. The family, however, later took her to GBP Hospital in Agartala, where the doctors also recommended an operation. Instead of proceeding, the parents consulted a village healer, which worsened the girl’s condition.

Eventually, Seema was brought back to Khowai District Hospital in deteriorating health. Since the poor family did not have an Ayushman card, hospital authorities quickly facilitated the card issuance, enabling the surgery to be carried out without financial burden.
The operation was led by orthopedic specialists Dr. Amon Debbarma and Dr. Biswajit Debbarma, along with their medical team. Dr. Amon Debbarma informed that the girl underwent a major surgery on her right thigh, where a plate was implanted, and all expenses were covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Debbarma said:
“We successfully conducted a major surgery on the minor patient’s fractured thigh. The entire cost of the operation was covered through the Ayushman card, ensuring no financial stress on the family.”
The girl’s father, Ron Kishore Debbarma, expressed deep gratitude towards the doctors and hospital authorities for saving his daughter’s life and providing much-needed support during their time of distress.
