Agartala, April 27, 2025: In a significant operation late on Saturday night, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested an alleged human trafficker from beyond the Indo-Bangla border fencing at Kamalasagar Miapara in Sepahijala district. The accused, identified as Simon Mia (25), a resident of Kamalasagar Miapara under Madhupur Police Station, had been absconding for a prolonged period in connection with a human trafficking case.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by the Agartala GRP, with the support of BSF personnel posted at Kamalasagar and Madhupur police. Following his arrest, Simon Mia was brought to the Agartala GRP police station where a special team is conducting rigorous interrogation.

Police sources said that further arrests related to the case are likely as investigations progress. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Hon’ble Court today, with police seeking remand for detailed questioning. In a separate incident on the same day, during a pre-departure security check of the Rani Kamalabati Express, Agartala GRP personnel recovered 17.5 kilograms of dry ganja.
The contraband was found abandoned inside five unclaimed bags on the premises. Police have seized the ganja after completing all legal formalities. An inquiry is underway to identify the individuals or networks responsible for the transportation of the illegal substance.
The estimated market value of the seized ganja is approximately ₹2,62,500, officials said. Both operations underscore the heightened vigilance and proactive measures undertaken by Agartala GRP to curb criminal activities in and around the state’s railway network.
