Agartala, April 27, 2025: In a coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs, security personnel detained four Bangladeshi nationals from Agartala Railway Station on Saturday for allegedly entering India without valid documents and attempting to travel further to other states.
The operation was jointly conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) Agartala, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and intelligence agencies. Acting on a tip-off, security forces intensified surveillance at the station premises and intercepted the individuals while they were waiting to board a train. During preliminary interrogation, the detained persons admitted to crossing into Indian territory illegally through the Indo-Bangladesh border.
They revealed that their intended destinations were Bengaluru and Chennai, where they were reportedly seeking work opportunities. The arrested individuals have been identified as: Zahirul Islam alias Zahir (42), a resident of Dhaka district, Bangladesh; Dilwar Hossain (44), a resident of Shariatpur district, Bangladesh; Jamirul Islam (27), a resident of Panchagarh district, Bangladesh; and Mohammad Zia (35), a resident of Jamalpur district, Bangladesh.
Officials suspect that the detained individuals are part of a larger network facilitating illegal migration across the border. “Further investigations are underway. We are trying to ascertain whether local agents were involved in assisting their movement,” a senior police official said on condition of anonymity. A case has been registered at Agartala GRP Police Station under relevant sections of The Foreigners Act and The Passport (Entry into India) Rules.
The arrested persons are scheduled to be produced before the court later today. Security forces have also intensified vigilance across key transit points in the state, amid fears of a possible surge in illegal crossings ahead of the upcoming summer season.
