Tripura, 24 April 2025: An alert group of villagers apprehended a drug peddler red-handed while he was selling heroin from a tomtom (local three-wheeler) near the Shani Mandir area under West Dewanpasha Gram Panchayat in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.
According to reports, for the past few months, there has been a growing menace of heroin abuse in the West Dewanpasha and Algapur Gram Panchayat areas, leading to concerns about the youth being driven toward destruction.
In response, vigilant residents of both villages have actively taken steps to combat the spread of drugs. On Wednesday afternoon, the villagers managed to detain a heroin dealer named Santosh Sharma, a resident of Algapur Bazar area, while he was allegedly ferrying and selling heroin. Several containers of heroin and syringes were recovered from his possession.
Following the incident, villagers promptly informed Dharmanagar Police, who arrived at the spot and took Santosh Sharma into custody. During the incident, Santosh Sharma reportedly told the villagers that he would not engage in such activities again.
However, the residents remain firm in their stance against drug peddling and warned that no one should dare to carry out such illegal trade in their communities.
