New Delhi, April 19 | SHABD: India has strongly condemned the abduction and killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a prominent Hindu community leader, in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district, calling the incident deeply distressing and indicative of continued targeting of minorities.
Roy, who served as the vice-president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, was allegedly abducted from his home on Thursday afternoon. According to his wife, Shantana Roy, the attackers called him to confirm his presence before entering the house and forcibly taking him away. He was later returned home in an unconscious state. Family members rushed him to a hospital in Dinajpur, where he was declared dead on arrival.
“We have noted with distress the abduction and brutal killing of Shri Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a Hindu minority leader in Bangladesh.
This killing follows a pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government, even as the perpetrators of previous such events roam with impunity. We condemn this incident and once again remind the interim government to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions.”
The incident has sparked outrage among human rights groups and minority organizations, who say attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh have increased in recent months. Authorities in Dinajpur have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
