Tripura, 13 April 2025: Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha today inaugurated the two-day state-level Buisu Festival at the premises of Banshi Chandra Para English Medium School in Jolaibari, Karbook. Organized by the Tripura Chubulai Buthu Central Committee, the festival celebrates the rich heritage and cultural identity of the indigenous communities of the state. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that festivals like Buisu, Biju, Garia, and the traditional New Year reflect the vibrant tribal culture of Tripura.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to preserving these traditions and working under the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He announced plans to open a new college in Karbook, which will help address the longstanding educational needs of the region.

Additionally, the government has allocated Rs 3 crore in the current budget for the distribution of traditional musical instruments to promote cultural activities. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to revive fading art forms such as puppet shows, folk plays, and traditional drama, under the guidance of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs. In the past year alone, the department organized 51 cultural programs and 122 events across the state, with over 10,000 artists participating.
Since November last year, 330 artists, many of them from tribal backgrounds, have been sent to perform at national-level events outside the state. Dr. Saha also spoke about the development of a Cultural Hub in Tripura with support from the DoNER Ministry and highlighted the presence of institutions like the National School of Drama, Lalit Kala Akademi, Sahitya Akademi, Sangeet Natak Akademi, and the Tripura Film and Television Institute all aimed at empowering the younger generation through cultural education. He concluded by saying that peace and harmony are essential for progress, and Tripura’s current peaceful environment is the foundation of its development.
The government is working tirelessly to ensure the socio-economic upliftment of the tribal communities. Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma urged the younger generation to take pride in their roots and carry their culture forward. TRP & PTG Minister Sukla Charan Noatia added that the government respects and supports the distinct culture of every tribal group.
Other dignitaries at the event included ADC EM Dolly Reang, former MP Rebati Tripura, MLA Sanjoy Manik Tripura, Tripura Dafa Samajpati Birendra Tripura, and various district and block-level officials. The welcome address was given by Tripura Chubulai Buthu General Secretary Tarunisen Tripura, while the event was presided over by Central Committee President Sachindra Tripura.
