Tripura, April 11: Tension flared up in the Indo-Bangla border area of Ray Para village under Kadamtala Police Station after miscreants allegedly set fire to a betel nut plantation following a heated land dispute. The incident has left an already distressed family in shock, as they were also allegedly assaulted during the altercation.
The victim, Abdul Mia (44), son of late Amzad Ali and a resident of Ward No. 2 of the village, alleged that on Tuesday around 4 PM, his cousin brother Abdul Kalam suddenly attempted to forcibly occupy a 20-decimal plot of land adjacent to his house. When Abdul Mia resisted, Kalam and his associates allegedly assaulted him and set fire to the property.
The blaze destroyed a betel nut grove along with mango and other fruit-bearing trees, causing significant loss. Abdul Mia claimed that he had legally purchased the land, but Abdul Kalam has been trying to seize it by force, falsely claiming ownership. The dispute between the two families has reportedly been ongoing for quite some time.
Following the incident, Abdul Mia lodged a written complaint at the Kadamtala Police Station against Abdul Kalam, his two wives Piyara Begum and Raziya Begum and his son Asad Uddin, accusing them of assault, arson, and attempted land grabbing.
However, as of the time of filing this report, police had not visited the scene nor initiated any investigation, Abdul Mia alleged. The family continues to await justice.
