Agartala, April 7: The Agartala Press Club held its biennial general meeting and executive committee elections on Sunday, drawing strong participation from its members. The meeting began at 11:30 AM with a presidium comprising outgoing president Jayanta Bhattacharjee, vice-president Sajjad Ali, and senior journalists Subal Dey and Sanjeeb Deb presiding over the session.
At the outset, members paid tribute to the late Kalpana Roy, a former member of the club. This was followed by the presentation of the editorial report by Secretary Romakanta Dey, who outlined the club’s activities over the past two years. A detailed discussion ensued, with several members offering feedback and suggestions. Outgoing president Jayanta Bhattacharjee responded to queries and remarks from the floor in a concluding address.
The general body unanimously approved both the editorial report and the statement of accounts presented during the meeting. Polling for the new executive committee began at 1 PM. Of the 240 eligible members, 230 exercised their voting rights. The election was overseen by Returning Officer Sandeep Dutta Choudhury and Assistant Returning Officer Parijat Dutta. Following the counting of votes, an 11-member committee was elected to serve a two-year term.
Pranab Sarkar was elected president, while Chitra Roy was chosen as vice-president. Romakanta Dey retained his position as secretary, and Kamal Choudhury along with Abhishek Dey were elected as assistant secretaries.
Ranjan Roy will serve as treasurer. The five elected executive members are Mihir Lal Sarkar, Abhishek Debbarma, Ranjit Debbarma, Santosh Gop, and Biswajit Dey. The Agartala Press Club extended congratulations to all elected representatives, participants, and those involved in conducting the elections smoothly.
