SHABD | New Delhi | April 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of high-level diplomatic engagements today on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, reaffirming India’s commitment to regional cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties. Among his key meetings was a conversation with Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance collaboration under the BIMSTEC framework and deepen the long-standing friendship between India and Bhutan.
Taking to social media, PM Modi wrote, “Had a great conversation with my good friend, PM Tobgay. India’s friendship with Bhutan is robust. We are cooperating extensively in several sectors.” Prime Minister Tobgay echoed the warmth in his response, stating, “Always a pleasure to meet my elder brother and mentor PM Narendra Modi ji. Discussed BIMSTEC, enhancing regional cooperation, and furthering Bhutan-India friendship.” Both leaders reaffirmed their shared vision for stronger bilateral relations.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi met Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Muhammad Yunus, marking their first official interaction since Yunus assumed office. The leaders explored ways to enhance collaboration within the BIMSTEC framework and expressed a mutual commitment to regional progress. PM Modi also met with Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
During the meeting, he conveyed heartfelt condolences over the recent earthquake in Myanmar and reiterated India’s support in the country’s recovery and relief efforts. Currently in Thailand at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, PM Modi’s visit marks his third to the country and highlights India’s focus on fostering regional ties through the BIMSTEC initiative. Following his engagements in Thailand, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for a state visit from April 4 to 6. During his visit, he will meet Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka to discuss deepening cooperation in trade, infrastructure development, and regional stability.
