Nurses Play a Crucial Role in Healthcare Services: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha
Tripura 31 Jan, 2025: Inauguration of the New Academic Building of North-East Institute of Nursing SciencesDue to the improvement in the state’s healthcare system, complex surgeries, including neurosurgeries, are now possible in Tripura. Alongside kidney transplants, initiatives are being taken to introduce liver and other organ transplants. As a result, the quality of healthcare services in the state will improve further in the coming days. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this today while inaugurating the new academic building and hostel of the North-East Institute of Nursing Sciences near Amtali Bypass.
During the event, the Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure. He mentioned that two medical colleges, a dental college, a nursing college, and various other healthcare education institutions have already been established in the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized the vital role of nurses in providing healthcare services in any medical institution. The reputation of a healthcare institution significantly depends on its nursing staff. Therefore, he stressed the importance of nurses maintaining a compassionate relationship with patients and their families. He highlighted that many youths from Tripura are working successfully in the nursing sector both nationally and internationally. He expressed confidence that this institute would also produce a significant number of skilled nurses who will contribute to the state’s healthcare system.
The Chief Minister further mentioned that a Super Specialty Block has been constructed at Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital at a cost of ₹250 crore. He also stated that trauma centers in district hospitals across the state have been strengthened, and a cardiac care center has been set up in Ambassa. Due to these initiatives by the state government, the number of referrals to hospitals outside Tripura has significantly decreased.

Addressing the event, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said that the state government is prioritizing the development of healthcare infrastructure, with private organizations also coming forward to contribute, which is a significant aspect of the state’s healthcare system. He noted that the public can clearly see the remarkable improvements in healthcare infrastructure compared to the past.
Padma Shri Chittaranjan Maharaj stated that this nursing institute would provide more opportunities for the youth of the state to pursue nursing courses. He also acknowledged the sincere efforts of the current state government in developing healthcare and other sectors.
Dr. Partha Pratim Saha, Chairman of the North-East Institute of Nursing Sciences, also addressed the gathering. Other notable attendees included MLA Meena Rani Sarkar and Tripura Central University Registrar Deepak Sharma.
