Tripura 30 Jan, 2025: Churaibari police arrested a drug peddler with a consignment of brown sugar from the Assam-Tripura border. The accused, identified as Badrul Haque, had allegedly been running his drug trade in the region for a long time while evading police surveillance.
According to Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khokon Saha, a raid was conducted late Wednesday night at Badrul Haque’s residence in Nandipara, Churaibari. During the search, police discovered 78 grams of heroin hidden in seven soap boxes. The estimated black market value of the seized contraband is around ₹7 lakh.
Following the seizure, police arrested Badrul Haque, son of Abdul Jalil. During preliminary interrogation, he confessed that he had smuggled the heroin on foot through dense forests from Assam to Tripura and intended to sell it later.
A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act (Sections 22(B)/25/29) under case number 2/25. He will be produced before the Dharmanagar District Court on Thursday, where police will seek a three-day remand for further investigation.
OC Khokon Saha also mentioned that drug smugglers are adopting new methods to evade police action. Many secret routes pass through reserved forests along the Assam-Tripura border, and traffickers frequently use these jungle paths. However, police have intensified surveillance in these areas to curb illegal drug activities.
