Agartala, January 29, 2025: A meeting of the Standing Committee on Industry of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad was held yesterday at the Zilla Parishad conference hall. The meeting was chaired by Shibayan Das, the Chairperson of the Standing Committee. Present at the meeting were Bholai Goswami, the Sabhadhipati of the Zilla Parishad, Biswajit Shil, the Assistant Sabhadhipati, along with other committee members and officials from the concerned departments.
During the meeting, officials from the Industries and Commerce Department reported that under the Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Srijan Yojana, 111 beneficiaries in the district have been sanctioned loans so far in the current financial year. Additionally, 694 individuals have received loan approvals under the Swavalamban Scheme.
Representatives from the Handloom, Handicrafts, and Sericulture Department informed that 120 weavers in the district have undergone three months of training in the current financial year. Awareness camps were conducted for artisans in Agartala, Indranagar, Yogendranagar, Mohanpur, Majlishpur, and Chhan Khala, where they also received training.
Furthermore, in the Champaknagar, Mohanpur, and Dukli silk industry centers, 62 beneficiaries were provided support for mulberry cultivation, bringing 30 acres of land under mulberry plantation. Additionally, two families in Bamutia and Hejamara blocks were assisted in the production of mulberry saplings. A total of ₹13.37 lakh has been spent on these initiatives.
A representative from Purvasha reported that ₹2.18 crore worth of handloom products and ₹1.25 crore worth of handicraft items have been sold so far in the current financial year.
