Tripura 25 Jan, 2025: Based on confidential information, the Forest Department conducted a secret operation and seized illegally stored timber worth lakhs of rupees. The operation was carried out on Saturday around 1 PM by officials of the North Tripura Forest Department in Pyarichhara, under Ward No. 2 of the Tarakpur Village Panchayat in Dharmanagar sub-division.
Acting on the tip-off, the officials raided the residence of Faizul Haque and seized approximately 80 cubic feet of illegally stocked timber of various species and sizes. The operation was led by Dharmanagar Forest Officer Ashok Kumar, Range Officer Supriya Debnath, and Kadamtala Forest Beat In-Charge Abhijit Das, along with other staff members.
It was reported that the information regarding the illegal stockpile of timber was received by Abhijit Das, who then coordinated the successful raid. This marks yet another achievement for the Forest Department under the leadership of Abhijit Das since he took charge of the Kadamtala Forest Beat.
Speaking about the operation, Dharmanagar Forest Officer Ashok Kumar stated that the seized timber has a significant black-market value of several lakhs. However, the owner of the house managed to escape. A case has been filed under the Forest Act, and an investigation is underway to track down those involved in the illegal timber trade.
