Emphasis on Solar Power for Electricity Production in the State: Power Minister
Tripura 21 Jan, 2025: Yesterday, A registration camp for the PM-Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme was held today at the Mohanpur Municipal Office premises. The camp was inaugurated by Power Minister Ratanlal Nath. The initiative was organized by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). During the inauguration, the Power Minister stated that electricity is indispensable in the modern world, and life without it is unimaginable, even for a minute. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on solar power projects to expand electricity services across the country.
The Power Minister stressed the importance of solar power for electricity generation in the state, noting that it is one of the most effective sources of energy. He also added that among all available energy sources, solar energy is the most significant.
The Minister mentioned that the Prime Minister envisions every household becoming self-reliant in electricity production. Under the PM-Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, the cost of installing a 1-kilowatt solar panel is estimated to range from ₹65,000 to ₹75,000. The government will provide a subsidy of up to ₹33,000 for beneficiaries. Similarly, subsidies of ₹66,000 for 2-kilowatt and ₹85,800 for 3-kilowatt solar panels will also be provided. The scheme not only enables households to produce their own electricity but also creates opportunities for income generation.
Applications from beneficiaries were collected during the registration camp today. Several dignitaries were present at the inaugural event, including Rakesh Deb, Chairman of the Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti; Anita Debnath, Chairperson of Mohanpur Municipality; Vice Chairperson Shankar Deb; TSECL DGMs Shiris Debbarma, Sujata Sarkar, and Khokan Debbarma.
