Agartala 19 Jan, 2025: As part of its week-long special anti-drug and traffic checking campaign, the West Tripura Police conducted a major operation on Sunday night at the VIP Road in Usha Bazar under the Airport Police Station.
The operation was led by West Tripura Superintendent of Police, Dr. Kiran Kumar K, and was supported by Airport Police Station OC Abhijit Mondal along with a large police force. During the drive, eight individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Speaking about the campaign, Dr. Kiran Kumar K stated, “Driving under the influence is not only dangerous for the driver but also poses a severe risk to pedestrians and other commuters. This special checking drive aims to prevent road accidents and ensure the safety of all.”
The police confirmed that legal action would be taken against the arrested drivers. The primary objective of this campaign is to raise awareness and discourage drivers from driving under the influence, ultimately reducing road accidents in the district.
In recent weeks, West Tripura has witnessed a rise in road accidents, some of which have resulted in fatalities. The district police’s initiative has been widely appreciated by the residents of the area, who believe that such drives will play a significant role in curbing accidents and promoting safe driving habits.
