Aimed at Building a Drug-Free Society
Tripura 18 Jan, 2025: The Jagriti-2025 program has been launched with the goal of promoting road safety, consumer protection, and creating a drug-free society in the state. As part of this initiative, an inter-college quiz competition was organized to raise awareness on these key issues. The event took place today at the Geetanjali Auditorium in Kumarghat and was inaugurated by the Minister of Food and Transport, Sushanta Chowdhury.
In his speech, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized that the three themes of the quiz competition are deeply connected to everyone’s lives. Raising awareness about these issues can significantly benefit society. The event was organized by the Departments of Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, and Transport, with participation from students of 14 colleges across the North, Unakoti, and Dhalai districts.
Key Highlights:
• Chief Guest Speech: The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Santana Chakma, highlighted that such quiz competitions play a vital role in enhancing awareness among students. She urged collective efforts to fight against drug addiction and stressed the importance of consumer protection laws and road safety.
• Special Guest Speech: The Minister for Scheduled Caste Welfare, Sudhangshu Das, stated that such initiatives help in spreading awareness among the public.
Other speakers included MLA Bhagwan Chandra Das, who addressed the audience, and Unakoti Zilla Parishad Chairperson Amalendu Das, who presided over the event. The welcome address was delivered by Subrata Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the Transport Department. The event was also attended by MLAs Philip Kumar Reang and Paul Dangshu, Kumarghat Municipal Chairperson Biswajit Das, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sumati Das, Additional District Magistrate Argha Saha, Director of Food and Consumer Affairs Sumit Lodh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate N. S. Chakma, among others.
Winners of the Quiz Competition:
1. First Place: Nishant Biswas and Jyoti Majumder from Kumarghat Teachers’ Training College.
2. Second Place: Tushar Das and Prithviraj Acharya from Aryabhatt International University, Dharmanagar.
3. Third Place: Itu Dewan and Joyshree Sarkar from Longtharai Valley Government College.
The winners will represent their colleges in the state-level competition. The prizes included:
• First Prize: Smart TVs for both winners.
• Second Prize: Mobile phones.
• Third Prize: Smartwatches.
An open quiz for the audience was also conducted, with attractive prizes for participants. Additionally, 300 helmets were distributed free of cost to college students from the three districts, with 100 helmets allocated to each district.
The quiz masters for the event were Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Nandu Panicker, Madhuja Debnath, and Subhrajit Bhattacharjee .
