State Government Committed to Employment Generation for the Unemployed: Social Welfare Minister
Agartala 10 Jan, 2025: The state government is highly aware of the need to create employment opportunities for the unemployed. The government has taken significant steps to fill vacancies across various departments and is continuing the recruitment process accordingly. After coming to power, the government formulated a transparent recruitment policy, under which recruitment is being carried out in multiple departments. Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy made this statement today while participating in a discussion on a private proposal in the Legislative Assembly.
The private proposal, introduced by MLA Nayan Sarkar, urged the state government to take special initiatives to fill the vacant posts across different departments. The discussion saw participation from MLAs Sudip Roy Barman, Nirmal Biswas, Kishore Barman, Chitta Ranjan Debbarma, and Ranjit Das.
During the discussion, Minister Tinku Roy revealed that, as of December 31, 2024, appointment letters had been issued to 13,654 regular employees across various departments. Additionally, 2,437 candidates selected for Group D positions under JRBT will soon receive postings. Furthermore, 12,419 individuals have been employed in irregular positions during the current government’s tenure. This includes 1,039 Anganwadi workers, 1,160 Anganwadi helpers, 1,262 Special Police Officers (SPOs), 5,771 on outsourcing and contractual bases, and 2,987 as security guards and other services in both government and private institutions.
In the police department alone, 1,916 constables, 6,067 special executives, 100 multi-purpose workers (MPWs), 229 provisional inspectors (PIs), 304 firemen, and 25 drivers have been recruited, with recruitment ongoing for 9,626 posts. Recently, the state cabinet also approved recruitment for an additional 2,627 posts.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to address unemployment, the minister mentioned that, over the past three years, 40,070 jobs have been generated through various schemes under the Industries and Commerce Department, along with 1,617 employment opportunities created by the Industrial Development Corporation. Additionally, 342 individuals have been trained as doorstep insemination workers under the Animal Resource Development Department and are now self-employed in rural areas.
The minister also shared details about initiatives under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission (TULM). A total of 2,770 self-help groups have received machinery and capital assistance worth ₹1,028.42 lakh. Under the Prime Minister’s Matsya Sampada Yojana, 2,715 beneficiaries were provided support for self-employment, while 4,067 individuals gained employment through the Prime Minister’s Kaushal Vikas Yojana.
The National Career Service Project has hosted 96 job fairs so far, enabling 2,135 young men and women to secure employment in private companies. Additionally, the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission saw 600 hectares of land cultivated with rubber in the 2023–24 fiscal year, benefiting 916 Indigenous families.
Minister Tinku Roy emphasized that the state government’s sustained efforts have reduced the unemployment rate in Tripura to 3.2% in 2023–24. He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring employment opportunities for the state’s youth. Despite these discussions, the private proposal was unanimously rejected by the Assembly.
