Tripura 4 Jan, 2025: Dharmanagar police detained a Bangladeshi woman and her child from West Chandrapur area this morning. However, three Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian agent managed to escape. The incident has caused a stir in West Chandrapur and Dharmanagar town.
According to reports, several Bangladeshi nationals had been taking shelter at the house of Nasir Ali in West Chandrapur village, located near Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, for the past 3-4 days. Acting on specific information, Dharmanagar police raided Nasir Ali’s house today. However, Nasir and three other Bangladeshi nationals escaped before the police could reach.
The police managed to detain a 35-year-old Bangladeshi woman, Nazma Begum, and her six-year-old son, Robiul Islam, who hail from Bagerhat in Khulna district, Bangladesh. During interrogation, Nazma admitted that they had crossed the border illegally with the help of Nasir Ali and had been staying at his house in West Chandrapur.
Dharmanagar police are conducting searches at various locations to apprehend Nasir and the other absconding Bangladeshi nationals.
The incident has sparked significant concerns over the state of border security. Despite claims of tight security along the India-Bangladesh border, frequent instances of illegal crossings suggest otherwise. Over the past few months, nearly a hundred Bangladeshi nationals have reportedly been detained in various parts of the state.
