Bishalgarh 26 November, 2024: Tripura’s fisheries sector took a big leap forward today with the inauguration of a new fish feed production factory in Gakulnagar, Sepahijala district. The facility, built under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), is spearheaded by Partha Debbarma and was formally inaugurated by Fisheries and Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das.
Speaking at the event, Minister Sudhangshu Das highlighted the importance of the PMMSY scheme in empowering fish farmers and strengthening rural economies. “Fish farming is a crucial part of our state’s rural livelihood. This new facility will ensure easy access to quality fish feed, which will directly improve productivity and income for our farmers,” he said.
The minister also emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring that the benefits of PMMSY reach genuine beneficiaries. “We are conducting regular review meetings to make sure the scheme is effectively implemented,” he added. As part of the event, fish kiosks were handed over to two fishermen under the scheme, offering them new opportunities to grow their businesses.
The new factory is expected to significantly improve the availability of fish feed, reducing the dependency on external sources and lowering costs for local fish farmers.
Apart from inaugurating the factory, Minister Das toured several other facilities in the Bishalgarh subdivision. He inspected the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Fisheries Office near Rastar Matha and reviewed its activities. Later, he visited the Debipur Cattle Farm to assess its role in supporting animal husbandry in the region.
