Kailashahar, Nov 21: Five-year-old Amina Begum from Unakoti district’s Yajekhawa area has recovered fully after undergoing successful heart surgery under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), a government initiative providing free treatment to children with serious health conditions.
Amina, the daughter of Salman Miah, had been suffering from congenital weakness and breathing difficulties since birth. On May 6, 2024, during a health screening camp at Babur Bazar Anganwadi Centre, RBSK doctors Dr. Papia Sinha and Dr. Saikat Deb, along with pharmacist Swapan Das and ANM Priyali Deb, identified a suspected heart condition in Amina. Recognizing the severity of her condition, the doctors advised her parents to seek advanced treatment.
However, due to financial constraints, Amina’s father could not afford the necessary medical expenses. The RBSK team stepped in and referred her to Agartala’s IGM Hospital for free treatment. At IGM Hospital, cardiology specialist Dr. Gopa Chatterjee conducted an echocardiography, which confirmed the heart condition.
Following this diagnosis, on September 3, 2024, Amina was sent to Apollo Children’s Hospital in Chennai for advanced care under the RBSK program. On September 24, 2024, a team of expert cardiologists at Apollo performed a successful surgery. Remarkably, Amina was discharged the very next day, fully stable.
After her recovery, Amina returned home, bringing immense relief and joy to her family. Expressing gratitude, her father, Salman Miah, thanked the RBSK doctors and health workers of Unakoti District Hospital for their unwavering support and efforts in saving his daughter’s life.
The Director of the Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Department shared this inspiring story through an official press release, emphasizing the life-changing impact of the RBSK initiative.
