Agartala, November 16: “The media, as the fourth pillar of democracy, plays a crucial role in safeguarding democratic values. Beyond news reporting, the media must actively contribute to societal development, which is the true measure of its success,” said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. He made these remarks while inaugurating the Sharad Samman and anniversary celebration organized by Headlines Tripura National Channel at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala.
During the event, the Chief Minister congratulated the clubs that won the Sharad Samman awards and expressed hope that they would continue to organize the Durga Puja festival in a peaceful and exemplary manner. Awards were presented to 52 clubs across various categories, with the Chief Minister and other dignitaries personally handing over the prizes to the club representatives.
Media’s Role in Social Responsibility
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the significant responsibility of the media in shaping society. He emphasized that accurately reporting societal flaws and disseminating the truth are core responsibilities of journalists. “People seek the truth, and delivering it builds trust,” he remarked.
He affirmed that the current state government is media-friendly and urged media houses to ensure that accurate information reaches the public. Referring to the improved law and order situation in the state, he lauded the peaceful completion of this year’s Durga Puja idol immersion process. He further stressed that state development is a collective effort, requiring the participation of not just the government but also the media and the people of Tripura.

Notable Guests and Contributions
Pranab Sarkar, the Chief-in-Editor of Headlines Tripura, delivered the welcome and vote of thanks. The event also saw speeches from several dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Swami Subhakarananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission, and celebrated Tripura-born scriptwriter of Lapata Ladies, Biplab Goswami.

Generous Contribution to the CM Relief Fund
A notable highlight of the event was a donation of ₹50,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund by viewer Biplab Sengupta, which was handed over to the Chief Minister.
