Agartala, November 13: A special earthquake preparedness drill will be conducted tomorrow at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala. The exercise will take place in the old terminal building area of the airport and will involve representatives from various government departments and security forces.
In preparation for the drill, a meeting was held today in the conference hall of the old terminal building. The meeting was chaired by Vishal Kumar, Chairman of the West Tripura District Disaster Management Authority and District Magistrate of West Tripura. Also in attendance were Major General Ajay Kumar Verma from the National Disaster Management Authority, Kailash Chandra Meena, Director of Agartala Airport, Kiran Gowda KS, Advisor (Transport Sector) of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and Sarat Kumar Das, Project Officer of the State Disaster Management Authority.
During the meeting, Major General Ajay Kumar Verma discussed the essential steps for handling earthquakes and the measures that can be taken beforehand. He advised organizing awareness programs across the state to better prepare for natural disasters like earthquakes. The airport director and the CDRI advisor also shared their insights on earthquake-resilient infrastructure.
The drill scheduled for tomorrow will see participation from personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, TSR, Assam Rifles, BSF, CISF, and Fire Service. The NDRF will also showcase various disaster management equipment in the old terminal building as part of the exercise.
