The 18th Annual State Conference of the Association of Surgeons of India, Tripura Chapter, commenced today at the KLS Auditorium, Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). Inaugurating the two-day event, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasized the government’s dedication to providing high-quality healthcare services to even the remotest communities in Tripura.
Chief Minister Saha underscored the collaborative efforts of the central and state governments in ensuring health protection and disease prevention across Tripura. He highlighted that one of the government’s primary objectives is to expand healthcare infrastructure and access for the state’s most underserved populations.
During his address, the Chief Minister outlined recent government initiatives to enhance the state’s healthcare facilities and infrastructure. “Our doctors are highly skilled and committed, and thanks to their combined talent and dedication, the number of people seeking treatment outside the state has significantly decreased,” Dr. Saha remarked. He added that the state has introduced various specialized medical services and actively recruited specialist doctors and other medical professionals. Nearly eight major external healthcare organizations have shown interest in investing in Tripura’s medical sector, reflecting growing confidence in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
Dr. Saha also attributed the increased interest in investment to the state’s political stability and effective law and order management. He highlighted the success of the recent kidney transplant conducted in Tripura and mentioned that the government is also considering liver transplants in the future. The Chief Minister expressed his commitment to continued development in healthcare services and facilities by leveraging the expertise of specialist doctors and medical staff. He further acknowledged the successes of both the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana in extending healthcare coverage to the people of Tripura.
The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the Association of Surgeons of India, Tripura Chapter, in advancing healthcare and urged the organization to continue its public welfare initiatives. A commemorative souvenir was also unveiled during the ceremony by the Chief Minister and other distinguished guests.
Notable attendees included Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, and AGMC Principal Dr. Anup Kumar Saha. The event honored veteran physician Dr. Amarendra Debbarma. Dr. Damodar Chatterjee, the conference organizing committee chairman, and Dr. Sunil Kumar Ghosh, the association’s president, delivered welcome addresses. Renowned surgeon Dr. G. Siddheshwar from outside the state was also present and spoke at the conference.
