A 15-day Water Festival aimed at promoting awareness on water management, conservation, and sustainability began today in Kulai. Organized by the Dhalai District Administration, the event was held at the Water Treatment Plant grounds in Thakurpalli, Kulai.
The festival was inaugurated by Susmita Das, Chairperson of the Dhalai Zila Parishad. In her address, she emphasized the need to protect drinking water sources to avoid future water shortages and urged everyone to prevent water wastage and support conservation efforts.
Also present at the event were Hemali Debbarma, Chairperson of the Ambassa Panchayat Samiti; Subhash Acharya, Additional District Magistrate; Alka Nanda RP, Young Professional from NITI Aayog; and Jiban Debbarma, Superintendent Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department. Following the inaugural speeches, the guests performed a symbolic ritual of tying sacred threads around water sources as a commitment to protecting these resources.
All attendees took a pledge to conserve drinking water and prevent wastage. The festival, with support from NITI Aayog, will include various programs across the district to promote the festival’s message and encourage responsible water management practices.
