Agartala, October 29, 2024: In a remarkable achievement, doctors and healthcare workers at Unakoti District Hospital successfully performed a cesarean delivery for an HIV-positive mother today. The expectant mother was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening due to labor pains. During preliminary testing, doctors discovered the presence of the HIV virus in her body. As her labor pains intensified, the medical team decided to proceed with the delivery at the district hospital on an emergency basis.
Specialized safety kits and separate surgical instruments were used for the procedure, given the patient’s HIV-positive status. Instead of referring her to another facility, the team at Unakoti District Hospital promptly arranged a dedicated safety kit and equipment for the cesarean procedure.
Under the guidance of obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Sumit Das, the team successfully delivered a healthy baby at 1 PM. The surgery was supported by anesthetist Dr. Rupamoy Das, OT Sister-in-Charge Sathi Ghosh, Nursing Officer Karuna Debbarma, OT Technician Suranjit Das, OT GDA Shubhankar Saha, and other healthcare workers. The Acting Health Director confirmed the successful procedure in a press release, commending the hospital staff for their dedication and commitment.
