Khowai, 28 October: The residents of Khowai town and surrounding areas have been struggling with an increase in petty thefts, often attributed to groups of young individuals involved in substance abuse, stealing to fund their addictions. For the past several months, thieves have been breaking into homes, forcing open doors and windows, and stealing valuables even in broad daylight. However, the police recently made significant recoveries of stolen items from various locations.
Yesterday, locals in the Sonatala area caught a thief in the act during the day. After restraining him, they handed him over to the police. Following an intensive interrogation, the Khowai Police expanded their investigation. Acting on leads from the interrogation, the police raided the Pohramura area, where they successfully recovered a large number of stolen items from previous theft cases over recent months.
According to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, several theft cases have come to light in recent months, and police investigations have led to the recovery of various items. The recovered goods have been returned to their rightful owners following court orders. He also mentioned that, along with the recoveries, four individuals linked to the thefts have been apprehended.
