Agartala, October 27, 2024: The 5th edition of Northeast Fiesta wrapped up in grand style, marking another successful celebration of Northeast India’s rich cultural diversity. Held from October 25-26 at Eastwood Village in Jalandhar, Punjab, the two-day event, organized by the North-East Students’ Organization Jalandhar (NESOJ), saw a strong turnout with nearly 800 to 1,000 attendees. The fiesta was a vibrant platform for the Northeastern states to showcase their unique traditions, music, dance, and cuisine, drawing visitors from all walks of life.
This year’s festival was inaugurated by Major Duzu Kiso, Assistant Director of the Army Postal Service, and Chief Guest Dr. Himanshu Agrawal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar. Addressing the audience, Dr. Agrawal emphasized the significance of cultural exchange as a bridge between communities, underscoring the district administration’s support for Northeast students and encouraging their involvement in sharing their heritage with the broader community.
Attendees enjoyed a colorful array of events, including traditional dances, folk music performances, fashion shows, interactive sessions, and art exhibitions. The event celebrated the cultural heritage of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, bringing together a wide variety of traditional crafts, foods, and talents from these regions. An ethnic fashion show, skits, and a band performance added to the captivating atmosphere, as guests explored exhibitions of sustainable handicrafts and authentic Northeastern cuisine.
On Day 2, the festival welcomed esteemed guests such as Dr. Saurabh Lakhanpal, Senior Dean of Division of Student Welfare at Lovely Professional University, Er. Temsuzulu, Deputy General Manager of the Marketing Division at Jalandhar Terminal, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, and Er. Yashpal Aithmian, Chief Manager at Indian Oil Corporation Limited. Their presence underscored the event’s goal of fostering community connections and celebrating Northeast India’s cultural richness.
Latiphar Syiem, Convenor of Northeast Fiesta 2024, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the partnership associations and student bodies representing the Northeastern states in Punjab. He was joined by Himan Debbarma, President of NESOJ, who thanked participants and guests, underscoring the importance of unity and cultural exchange.
Conceptualized and produced by TOTELL, a startup community from the Northeast, the Northeast Fiesta once again highlighted the importance of cultural celebration in fostering mutual respect and appreciation among communities. With yet another successful event, NESOJ hopes to continue this annual tradition, building cultural bridges for future generations.
