Kadamtala, October 23, 2024: A special delegation from Japan visited Kadamtala on Tuesday, October 22, to inspect the local agarwood industry. Accompanied by officials from the Government of India and the Tripura Forest Department, the visit was organized under the supervision of the All Tripura Agarwood Association.
The delegation included Mr. Kei Otsuki, Second Secretary of the Economic Wing, Embassy of Japan in India, and Mr. Fujiwara Hidenobu, Japanese Representative from JICA India. They began their day at Dharmanagar Railway Station, inspecting an agarwood shop before visiting agarwood plantations in Kadamtala, where they planted five saplings. The team later visited the Maman Wood, Chips & Agar Oil Industry in North Fulbari to observe the production process.
Also present were officials from the Tripura Forest Department, including Pravin Agrawal, IFS, CEO & PD of the Tripura JICA Project, and District Forest Officer Suman Mall, along with local leaders such as Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath. All Tripura Agarwood Association President Shailen Nath and Secretary Anfar Ali were also in attendance.
The Japanese delegation expressed their satisfaction with the industry’s development and noted that Tripura, particularly Kadamtala, has become a significant agarwood producer. Anfar Ali mentioned that the support from the state and central governments has been instrumental and shared that agarwood products from Tripura are already being exported to Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and the Middle East. With approximately INR 400 crore in funding on the way, he expressed optimism about future exports to more international markets.
