AGARTALA, 22 Oct., 2024: Along with 312 venues worldwide, Don Bosco Peace Centre Agartala hosted the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival, (DBGYFF) Season 3 on 22-23 October 2024 at Agartala Don Bosco School Mini auditorium.
Hon’ble Chief Justice (Retd) of Orissa High Court, Shri Subhasis Talapatra was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Ceremony. In his address, he congratulated Don Bosco for the initiative, exhorted everyone, particularly the youth to take seriously the theme of the Festival, ‘Making Mother Earth cleaner and greener’. After he declared the Festival open, the screening of the films commenced.
DBGYFF invites young people between the ages of 18-25 to make films on a given topic. The entries are divided according to the regions they belong to and evaluated by regional juries. The best films from all the regions are subjected to a second scrutiny by a central jury and then the final screening list drawn up.
Season 3 of DBGYFF features 120 short films selected from among 2226 entries from 117 countries. The event takes place simultaneously in 312 venues in different cities of the world, including our city, Agartala. In the rest of the world the event took place on 17th and 18th October. The Agartala edition was delayed by a couple of days due to local factors.
It is noteworthy that for the first time, there is a Kokborok film among the 120 selected films, The Kokborok short film called ‘Saidra’, directed by Abel Debbarma and was made in Tripura. The SAIDRA team was also felicitated at the Festival.
That this year’s edition had 2226 entries from 117 countries and screenings were held in 312 venues makes DBGYFF unique and global in character.
The competitive festival, whose objective is to rally young people of the world around a constructive and worthwhile cause in a creative and challenging manner, is coordinated by the Media department of Don Bosco International headquarters in Italy works through 8 regional juries in 8 regions: Africa Madagascar, Africa South Cone, East-Asia Oceania, South Asia, Europe and Middle East and Interamerica.
