Khumulwng, 11th October 2024: In a landmark moment for indigenous journalism in Tripura, the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) extended warm greetings to indigenous reporters and senior journalists during a special ceremony held on the occasion of Durga Puja’s Nabami. This initiative, led by Maharaja Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma, marks a significant recognition of the media’s role in tribal areas.
The event, organized in response to a request from the Khumulwng Press Club, took place on Friday and was spearheaded by the ICA Department of TTAADC. Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia attended as the chief guest, accompanied by ICA Executive Member Suhel Debbarma and prominent members of the Khumulwng Press Club, including Secretary Ranjit Debbarma and Vice-President Nripendra Debbarma.
In a ceremonial gesture, Secretary Ranjit Debbarma presented floral bouquets to Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia and ICA Executive Member Suhel Debbarma, celebrating the festive spirit of Durga Puja. Additionally, ICA Executive Member Suhel Debbarma honored the journalists present by gifting them traditional “risa,” symbolizing good wishes for the festival.
The gathering served as an important platform for twelve journalists to engage in discussions regarding TTAADC’s newly introduced advertisement policy. They also addressed challenges faced by the media community, fostering a collaborative dialogue aimed at improving journalistic practices in the region.
As the event concluded, Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia and Secretary Ranjit Debbarma provided insights into the process for media houses to gain government empanelment and accreditation under the new policy. The ceremony wrapped up with a festive lunch hosted by the TTAADC government, further strengthening the bonds within the local media community.
