Teliamura, October 12, 2024: In a disturbing incident, a 12-year-old girl was reportedly assaulted in a tribal area under the Teliamura subdivision. The local police, acting promptly, arrested the accused within a few hours of receiving the complaint.
According to the details, the young girl was out with a relative to enjoy Durga Puja celebrations on Saptami night when Sujit Debbarma, the accused, allegedly followed them in the Tui Madhu area of Chakmaghat. The suspect is reported to have forcefully taken the girl from near the Tui Madhu school premises.
A complaint was lodged on Ashtami night, Friday, around 8 PM at Teliamura Police Station. Following this, the police quickly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Sujit Debbarma within two to three hours.
Speaking on the matter, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pannalal Sen confirmed, “The accused was arrested shortly after the complaint was filed. Legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.”
A case has been registered under Teliamura Police Station Case No. 73/2024, including provisions of the relevant laws for such offenses. The local community has expressed concerns, urging swift justice for the victim. The police assured that the investigation will continue, and appropriate measures will be taken.
