Dhalai, Tripura – October 3, 2024: In a heartwarming development, the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) has once again proven its life-changing impact by providing free cleft lip and palate surgery to 1.5-year-old Isha Roy. Born on January 9, 2023, to parents Pikam Roy and his wife in the remote village of Ghagrachhara under the Manu block, little Isha’s condition was diagnosed shortly after birth, causing significant concern among her family.
Doctors at the Manu Social Health Centre, led by Dr. Weldson Debbarma and Dr. Pritilata Debbarma, along with pharmacist Soumendra Das, conducted a screening that confirmed Isha’s cleft lip and palate condition. The family was assured that the surgery would be covered entirely under the RBSK initiative. After months of consultations and preparations, Isha was sent to Tripura Medical College & Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital in Agartala for surgery on June 30, 2024.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of RBSK and Mission Smile, a cleft lip surgery camp was held at the hospital, where Isha underwent a successful operation on July 2, 2024. The next day, she was discharged in stable condition, bringing immense relief and joy to her family.
Isha’s parents expressed deep gratitude to the medical team at Manu Social Health Centre and the RBSK initiative for giving their daughter a chance at a healthy life. A press release from the Department of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine shared the story, emphasizing the importance of the RBSK program in providing free, life-changing medical interventions for children in need.
With her surgery now behind her, Isha Roy is recovering well, and her family looks forward to a bright future for their daughter.
