Agartala, September 22: “Books are a source of knowledge and they never allow us to forget our culture, tradition, and heritage,” said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today. Addressing the 41st Annual General Meeting of the All Tripura Book Sellers and Publishers Association at Maharani Tulsibati Higher Secondary Girls’ School Auditorium in Agartala, the Chief Minister emphasized the enduring significance of books, even in the digital era.
He pointed out that despite the convenience of accessing books on mobile devices and computers, the charm of printed books remains intact. “Many are still eager to buy printed books, and the new generation continues to enjoy reading. The feel and scent of a new book can ignite enthusiasm and increase the desire to learn,” he said.
The event was also attended by Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, educationist Prof. Jagadish Gana Chowdhury, and the association’s General Secretary, Uttam Chakraborty. During the event, the association honored Haridas Roy of Roy Brothers and Subodh Chandra Dutta of Dutta Book Stall for their contributions to the literary community.
The All Tripura Book Sellers and Publishers Association donated ₹50,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to aid flood-affected families in the state. The Chief Minister lauded the association for its philanthropic efforts and encouraged continued support for society through social welfare initiatives.
