Udaipur, Sept 21: The foundation stone for the new office of the Gomati District Superintendent of Police was laid yesterday by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at the eastern bank of Jagannath Dighi, Udaipur. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the rule of law in Tripura, stating that various crimes have significantly decreased due to the government’s commitment to good governance.
“Peace and harmony allow developmental work to proceed smoothly. The state is witnessing a reduction in criminal activities, thanks to the enforcement of the law,” said the Chief Minister. He further acknowledged the proud 150-year history of the Tripura Police, highlighting the department’s role in promptly addressing the problems faced by the public.
Dr. Saha noted that crime rates have dropped considerably compared to previous years, attributing this to awareness programs initiated by the state police, which have been largely successful. However, he expressed concern over the rising drug addiction among youth and urged for intensified anti-drug campaigns. He also stressed the importance of continuing anti-drug awareness among the general public. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to women’s safety, mentioning that nine all-women police stations have been established across the state’s eight districts, where women can file complaints and receive assistance for any crimes against them.
He also mentioned that the central government is equally vigilant in maintaining peace in the state. Recently, two extremist groups from Tripura signed a peace agreement with the government in Delhi.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who was also present at the event, said that the long-standing demand of Gomati district is being fulfilled with the foundation of this new office. He added that better infrastructure leads to improved efficiency.
