Agartala September 9, 2024: Late last night in the Motchaumhani area of Tripura, a violent attack on journalists sparked widespread outrage. Around 1:15 a.m., six journalists on duty were assaulted by a group of miscreants. While performing their professional duties, two individuals suddenly jumped out of a car and attacked journalist Prasenjit Bhattacharya. When five other journalists tried to save him, they too were attacked by the miscreants. The attackers were reportedly accompanied by a car and six to seven motorcycles.
Upon receiving information about the incident, East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee promptly arrived at the scene with a police team. The journalists managed to apprehend one of the attackers, who was then taken to the police station. This morning, the journalists filed a case against three individuals involved in the attack.
The names of the three accused are Sukanta Debnath, also known as Nishan, Saurav Bhattacharjee, and Akash Banik. In response to this incident, the journalist community has come together, demanding strict punishment for the culprits. The key focus now is how actively the police administration responds to this case and what neutral steps they take to curb such criminal activities in the dead of night.
The journalists have called upon the administration for a swift resolution to this disgraceful attack. The situation remains tense, and all eyes are on the authorities’ next move.
