Agartala, August 10, 2024: In a grand ceremony held at the Khorang Community Hall in Mandai, the Government of Tripura honored Jishnu Dev Varma, the newly appointed Governor of Telangana. This historic occasion marked the first time that a native of Tripura has been appointed as a constitutional head of another Indian state.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who took office as the Governor of Telangana on July 31, 2024, was felicitated by Tripura’s Chief Minister, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, who presented him with a commemorative plaque and a citation in recognition of his numerous contributions to the state and the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha praised Governor Dev Varma as a multifaceted individual, lauding his achievements not only as a seasoned politician but also as a poet, writer, and artist. “Your creative contributions to society have undoubtedly made us proud,” the Chief Minister said. He also highlighted the Governor’s deep commitment to the welfare of tribal communities in Tripura and his significant role in the state’s overall development.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, and Chief Secretary J K Sinha. In his speech, the Chief Minister noted that Jishnu Dev Varma’s appointment as Governor of Telangana was a matter of great pride for the people of Tripura. He recalled Varma’s impactful tenure as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura from 2018 to 2023, where his leadership in departments such as Finance, Panchayati Raj, and Rural Development was particularly noteworthy.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma expressed his gratitude for the honor and acknowledged the role of the Prime Minister in his appointment. “It is a matter of immense pride to be recognized by my home state after being appointed as the Governor of Telangana. This appointment has opened new avenues for the recognition of Tripura on a national level,” he said.
He further assured that he would use his experience in Tripura to contribute to the development of Telangana while also sharing insights from his new role to benefit Tripura. The Governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony to continue the momentum of development in Tripura, and he also expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts of the state government to uplift the tribal communities through various initiatives.
The event concluded with remarks from Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma and Chief Secretary J K Sinha, both of whom expressed their pride in Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s achievements and their confidence in his ability to bring further development and recognition to both Telangana and Tripura.
