Agartala, July 27, 2024 – In a significant move to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the city, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched 60 new waste collection vehicles. The inauguration ceremony took place at the AMC’s Bordowali workshop, where Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder flagged off the new fleet.
Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Commissioner Dr. Shailesh Yadav, and other councilors of the AMC were also present at the event. Mayor Majumder emphasized the AMC’s primary goal of keeping the city free from waste and pollution. He expressed confidence that the projects undertaken by the state and central governments will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for the citizens.
The project, funded by the National Housing Bank through the Urban Infrastructure Development scheme, includes 51 four-wheel EV hopper tippers purchased at a cost of ₹12,99,600 each and 8 tipper trucks at ₹17,93,100 each. The funding is shared between the central government (90%) and the state government (10%).
Additionally, a self-propelled sweeping vehicle has been acquired under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, costing ₹2.56 crore.
Mayor Majumder hopes that this initiative will significantly contribute to the city’s cleanliness and aesthetics. The new waste management vehicles are expected to enhance the efficiency of waste collection and management across Agartala.
