Tripura Panchayat Elections Announced
Agartala, July 10: The schedule for the three-tier Panchayat elections in Tripura has been announced. State Election Commissioner Shardindu Choudhury stated that the Panchayat elections will be held on August 8, 2024. The official notification for the elections will be issued tomorrow, July 11, 2024.
Nomination Submission and Scrutiny
At a press conference at the state secretariat, it was announced that the last date for submitting nomination papers is July 18, 2024. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on July 19, 2024, and the last date for withdrawing nominations is July 22, 2024.
Voting and Counting
Voting will take place on August 8 from 7 AM to 4 PM. The vote counting will begin on August 12 at 8 AM and all election processes will be completed by August 17, 2024.
Nomination Submission Schedule
Except on public holidays, nomination papers can be submitted to the Returning Officers from July 11 to July 18, 2024, between 11 AM and 3 PM.
Ballot Papers and Colors
Voting will be conducted using ballot papers. Each voter will cast three votes using three different colored ballot papers: white for Gram Panchayat, pink for Panchayat Samiti, and green for Zila Parishad.
Responsible Officials
District Magistrates and Collectors of the 8 districts will serve as District Election Officers (DEO) and will also act as Returning Officers for Zila Parishad seats. Block Development Officers (BDO) of the 35 blocks will act as Returning Officers for Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti seats.
Total Seats
Elections will be held for 6,370 seats in 606 Gram Panchayats, 423 seats in 35 Panchayat Samitis, and 116 seats in 8 Zila Parishads. A total of 12,94,153 voters are eligible to vote in this Panchayat election, including 6,58,445 male voters, 6,35,697 female voters, and 11 other voters.
Security Arrangements
Adequate security measures are being taken to ensure free and fair elections. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) along with Tripura Police and TSR forces will be deployed.
Press Conference
Present at the press conference were State Police IG L. Darling and State Election Commission Secretary Asit Kumar Das, among others. The State Election Commissioner sought cooperation from all concerned to ensure smooth conduct of the election process.
