Agartala Dec 19: The founder and chief of Tipra Motha Party (TMP), Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, (Pradyot Manikya) also known as Bubagra or Maharaja among the indigenous people of Tripura, has issued a voice statement urging the people of the state to reject hatred and violence on the grounds of religious beliefs and to embrace peace and love for the progress of society.
In his voice message, which was circulated through his social media group on Monday, Bubagra Pradyot said, “Hatred, negativity, ego, jealousy, and greed in our society or community will benefit none of us but it will be the cause for our destitute.”
He warned that there will be an attempt to create a conflict among the Tiprasa, the indigenous people of Tripura, on 25th December (Christmas Day) similar to a clash among brothers in Manipur on religious cords, intending to create rage, tensions, and disappointment which can induce to take the wrong action.
He was referring to the rally planned by Janajati Suraksha Manch (JSM), a tribal body backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which wants the government to delist the tribals who converted to Christianity from the Scheduled Tribe category. The JSM has announced that it will organize rallies in 23 tribal-dominated districts of various states, including Tripura, on Christmas day with this demand.
Appealing for peace and love, Bubagra Pradyot further said, “I don’t want you to take a damaging move after all you know what to do if we choose to remain stoic and calm keeping the cold psyche we will conquer their ulterior motives and they will become unsuccessful.”
The voice message came amid the insecurity of harmony among the citizens regarding the “delisting ST rally” as planned by JSM. Several political parties, including CPI (M), Congress, People’s Congress, and TIPRA Motha, have opposed the move and called it “unconstitutional” and “provocative.”
Bubagra Pradyot is the head of the erstwhile ruling dynasty of Tripura and the current chairman of The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance, also known as TIPRA Motha. He is known as one of the active voices for the rights of the indigenous Tripuri people of Tripura. He recently contested and won the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections from the Takarjala-Jampuijala constituency.
