Agartala 1 Sep,2023: Contractual staff nurses at GB Hospital in Tripura have once again staged a protest, demanding job regularization and the payment of their overdue salaries. They demonstrated outside the hospital premises today.
The contractual nurses allege that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tripura government had hired them on a contractual basis for a monthly wage of Rs. 10,000 (approximately $135). However, as per recent developments, the government has extended their employment for an additional three months. Despite this extension, they claim that the government has failed to release their pending salaries.
Furthermore, the nurses express concerns about their future job security. They assert that the short-term employment of just one to two months has left them in a state of uncertainty. They demand that the government prioritize regularization rather than repeatedly extending their temporary contracts.
This issue has been raised multiple times, with complaints sent from hospital medical superintendents all the way to the Chief Minister’s office. However, a resolution has not yet been reached. The protesting nurses are seeking intervention from the government to ensure the regularization of their employment and timely salary payments.
