Agartala, January 24, 2024: Six students from the OBC community in Tripura have been invited by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, to attend the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. Today, the students were felicitated by the OBC Welfare Department in a special program. OBC Welfare Minister Santana Chakma, along with Secretary Tapas Roy and Director Nirmal Adhikari, honored the students with floral garlands and ceremonial scarves.
During the felicitation ceremony, Minister Santana Chakma expressed her pride and joy, stating that attending such a prestigious national event is undoubtedly a matter of great honor. She mentioned that this is the first time meritorious students benefiting from various OBC schemes and scholarships have been given the opportunity to participate in the Republic Day celebrations through the department’s efforts. She assured that the government would continue to undertake such initiatives for the welfare of the OBC community in the future.
Secretary Tapas Roy emphasized that being present at a national event of this magnitude is a rare privilege. He expressed hope that the students representing Tripura would bring pride to the state.
Director Nirmal Adhikari, in his welcome speech, explained that this is the first time the OBC Welfare Department has selected six talented students from Tripura, based on their merit and achievements, to attend the event in New Delhi. He informed that a total of 415 OBC members from across the country have been invited by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to participate in the Republic Day celebrations. While ten students were initially selected from Tripura, four could not attend due to exams and personal reasons.
The six selected students, hailing from North Tripura, Dhalai, Khowai, and West Tripura districts, are scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Saturday to participate in the grand event.
