Khowai 20 November, 2024: “Responsible citizens must remain aware of their consumer rights,” said Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during a seminar on consumer rights awareness held at Dasharath Deb Memorial College in Khowai. Organized by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, the event aimed to educate citizens about their rights as consumers and promote awareness to deter unethical practices by businesses.
Highlighting the importance of awareness, the Minister urged citizens to take precautions such as collecting cash memos and checking expiry dates when purchasing goods. He emphasized that informed consumers can prevent fraud and hold businesses accountable.
The seminar was inaugurated by Debashis Nath Sharma, Chairperson of Khowai Municipal Council, and saw participation from prominent personalities, including Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Khowai Sub-Divisional Magistrate Charu Verma, and Director of the Food Department Sumit Lodh.
The session was presided over by Dr. Khokon Majumder, Principal of Dasharath Deb Memorial College, with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Pankaj Chakraborty, a faculty member of the college.
